Subreddit News, Tournaments, and some CCU Mythbusting

Greetings Warriors!
Now that the (green) smoke has settled from the Y4S2 and the CCU landing, we thought now would be a good time to do a quick subreddit news post, as there are a few things to catch you up on - before Y4S3 arrives and there is more news to take the sticky post slot!

Upcoming Tournaments

First up, there are a number of tournaments happening in the next few weeks. Slayscion Gaming are returning with 4v4 and 2v2 tournaments on PC, in EU and NA regions in the next few weeks! And if you didn’t get chance to watch the last 4s tournament, you can watch the VOD of The Arena’s cross region dominion tournament last weekend here. Remember to keep an eye on Battlefy.com for upcoming For Honor events! Ubisoft have announced that the PC Dominion Series will be starting up next season, so now is an excellent time to get into competitive tournament play, and practice for the big tournaments on the horizon!

New Mods

Next, I’d like to welcome two new mods to the team, u/SenpaiKaplan (SenKa) and u/DaniUsagi. I’m sure regular readers will recognise these two, as they are both frequent contributors to the sub, with many interesting tech posts between them. We’ve been seeing a big increase in viewers and posts since the CCU, and their help and expertise will be much appreciated! Please give them a warm welcome!

Poll Posts have been disabled

Since Reddit added the new Poll option on posts, we have seen a big influx of these posts, and unfortunately 90% of them have been very low effort, normally just a title and a binary choice, which we have had to remove. Adding a “no low-effort polls” clause to rule 6 hasn’t helped with that situation, so we have decided to disable the option entirely. If you do still want to do poll the readers here as part of a discussion post, or want to gather data to find opinions on a specific question, you are welcome to include links to external survey sites (like surveymonkey or google forms) in text posts - we are only trying to cut down on low-effort posts, not genuine use of poll for interesting content.

Info Hub Update

The Info Hub has been updated with all the changes from the CCU and the follow-up patches, including the 3 new executions, new punishes, balance information on each character, and an All Attack Properties sheet which allows you to compare attacks across the cast, and contains lots of data that doesn’t fit on the individual character sheets (like hit reactions for example). We are still in the process of revamping the General Info sheet, and an update to the Viability Tables is also in the works, now that there has been a decent amount of time since the CCU for the meta to stabilise. Also planned is addition of frame advantage sections on some moves for which it is particularly relevant.

Modern on a Budget: Operation Midrange

Hey there Modern people,
For those that have never seen me around before, I love budget Magic. Over on the Pioneer sub, I have this series that I do where I develop budget lists and run them through some games to report back there. For a couple weeks now, i’ve been getting more and more interested in Modern, so I figured that you guys could do with some of that budget goodness as well, and that’s what i’m here for today.
If you didn’t catch it, last week I posted up a link to my Incomplete Compendium of Budget Modern Decks. (You can find that [HERE]) I’ve been updating that list since posting it, and it’s getting to the point where it’s almost finished. I’m going to take a couple of decks from this list and run them through some games so we can talk about how the decks perform. All of these decks are around a $100 budget in paper, and typically significantly less expensive online.
One thing that I see very frequently when discussing budget modern decks is that Midrange strategies are basically completely unplayable because “YoU cAn’T tUrN a GoOdStUfF dEcK iNtO a BuDgEt DeCk”. While this is a little true (You just can’t fit 4x thoughtseize 4x Liliana of the Veil into a budget list unfortunately), it’s definitely not out of the realm of possibility that you can play Midrange on a budget. Here, i’ve got three lists (Featuring some newly cheapened Double Masters cards!) that I think are totally viable as budget midrange options. Without anymore fanfare, let’s just jump in!

Skred
The first up for this one, we’ve got the first midrange archetype that I ever played in a tournament setting - Skred Red. For those that weren’t around in the stone age when this deck was popular, Skred Red is a snow based red midrange deck that looks to take advantage of its namesake as an extremely powerful removal spell, jam out a blood moon to lock out greedy manabases, and take over the game with difficult to deal with threats such as Koth or some Dragons.
For this build in particular, i’ve decided to go for a suite of creatures that all provide Two for Ones (which will hereby be known as 2-4-1s) in some fashion, as well as going heavy handed on the card advantage spells that are within the budget range. One thing that i’ve learned is that Mazemind Tome is an amazing card, and if you’re playing a grindy deck that isn’t in blue you should definitely consider playing it. It helps to recover and stabilize in a color that otherwise doesn’t have access to lifegain, and drawing up to 4 cards is no joke. Other key synergies here include the combo of Eternal Scourge and main deck Relic of Progenitus to provide us with an “infinite” amount of 3/3 blockers or attackers while offering lines of disruption that most decks don’t have until sideboarding. Koth of the Hammer plus Mountains is also a very solid strategy for ending a game quickly, as the emblem is essentially unbeatable for the large percentage of the metagame. The main game plan here is to keep the board clear of creatures by any means necessary so as to not die, then jam out a threat that a creature deck won’t be able to deal with. This deck is basically the creature deck killer. Against non-creature decks, we’re really just hopeful that a blood moon or relic of progenitus is enough to slow them down so we can burn them out.
Anyway, after playing some games, I ended up with a respectable 3-3. Modern is a lot more varied than it was in Skred’s heyday, which means that there’s a much smaller percent chance that you’ll go up against one of the deck’s stellar matchups. However, with astrolabe banned again Blood moon is definitely back on the menu as a real threat that people need to be concerned about. People pretty frequently seem to forget that blood moon is legal in the format; either that or they just don’t care enough about it and are willing to lose whenever it shows up. Janking people out with some stupid card that they aren’t prepared for is one of the cornerstones of building a deck on a budget, and Blood moon gives the Skred deck some major power. Overall, this seems more like a deck you take to an in-person event where you know that you’ll be facing up against creature decks and decks with greedy mana bases all night. I don’t think i’d take it to a large scale tournament with an unknown meta right now, but with some tuning it is certainly capable of pulling out wins.

Hatebears
Many people will look at a Death and Taxes or Hatebears list and think “Hey, this is an Aggro deck!”. While yes, on the surface this archetype definitely looks the way of a strictly aggressive creature beatdown deck, once you start reading the abilites and thinking about how they might play out over your typical game against any other random deck in the format, you’ll see that Hatebears is actually much more flexible, and able to adapt to become the control role in a large number of matchups.
Hatebears was originally developed as a “Meta crusher” deck to beat up on jund decks by dropping a Loxodon Smiter on them when they went to play their discard effects. Since, it has existed in various forms, often being named interchangeably with Death and Taxes as they perform very similar roles in the modern metagame. The point of a Hatebears deck is to use efficient green mana dorks to jump ahead slightly into your powerful disruptive GW creature suite, and grind away at the opponent by having some kind of answer to anything that they’re doing while getting in for chip damage turn after turn. For my version, i’ve decided to supplement the removal suite with the combo of Containment Priest plus flicker effects to be able to exile any creature at will and keep them gone for good. This is supported by a small cat-tribal subtheme, as well as the typical litany of Taxes creatures whose job it is to throw the opponent off axis.
The matches for this one went surprisingly well, ending on a 4-2 record. I played against a couple of combo decks who were completely hosed by the main deck hate cards I was packing, and I was also able to grind it out against a bant uro pile, keeping up with their creature threats as they struggled to answer my own. I’m pretty impressed with the deck in this small showing, and would love to see where this archetype can go in the hands of someone who really dedicates time to mastering it. The deck really rewards format knowledge, even in this budgeted incarnation, as it’s a deck that runs on very thin margins and making a wrong play somewhere can have devastating side effects a few turns down the road. Hatebears or Death and Taxes are in the category of decks where you grow as you play the deck, you tune the deck to perfectly fit against the overall metagame, and you’re rewarded for your dedication to the archetype. This isn’t a deck i’d expect to just pick up and start winning games with, there aren’t very many free wins here. If you like working for your glory, then Hatebears is definitely a deck for you.

Delirium
And now for the one we’ve all been waiting for. I promised midrange decks, and this is by far the most midrange-y of them all. Budget Son of Jund, the mac daddy itself, GB Delirium is here to kick tail and chew bubblegum…. And it’s all out of bubblegum.
If i’m honest, I have no idea what that reference is even from. What I do know is that yes, GBx Midrange is in fact possible on a budget. For almost a decade, i’ve seen people ask “How do I play Jund on a budget in modern?”. It’s the most widely requested budget deck, and one of the most beloved playstyles. Magic as Richard Garfield intended, trading your resources with your opponent 1-4-1 in a true test of pilot skill and preparation. The deck with a 50/50 matchup against any other deck in the field not accounting for pilot skill. The deck that every man wants to be, every woman wants to be with, and every non-binary or asexual person looks at with the familiar fondness of a lifelong friend.
The deck was just kinda fine. Another 3-3 record, I actually had much higher expectations for this one. I want to focus in on what the deck does well first, and that is approximate on a budget the playstyle and patterns of a non-budget GBx midrange deck. The choices feel almost the same, even though the card-for-card value is much less on our end. The deck offers an excellent stepping stone into GB Midrange decks in modern, and I feel as though if you’re looking for a first step into the format that this is one of the best ways to do it without playing aggro. Now, to what the deck does poorly. In building on a budget, we are limited severely by what we have access to, namely that we can’t build a “goodstuff” deck because all of the good stuff is heckin expensive. This means that we need to shift our focus onto synergy, because synergies exist at all levels in Magic. When we look for synergies in the GB colors, the most common theme we find is graveyard interaction, or playing around with our dead stuff. Going this route in modern without going all in on it means that we’re left weak to all the various graveyard hate that exists in the format without netting much of the benefit. While this means that we still get to play with some of the best cards we have access to, we’re left in a more vulnerable spot than if we were a non-budget build. Another area where we face difficulty is in the overall popularity of GBx as an archetype, meaning that we’re fighting against ourselves when trying to join in because anything of use to us is naturally going to be more expensive. While GB isn’t very pressed when it comes to making a mana base, we are pretty pressed in terms of removal as all of our best options are either $7+ or 3+ mana.
We should also talk about timing in the metagame and what you should expect when taking a budget list for a spin. Right now, modern is dominated by Uro midrange piles, combo decks, highly efficient aggro decks, and prison style control decks. Not very many of these are excellent matchups for us when we’re not equipped with our strongest answers. Our small discard suite can keep the combo decks at bay long enough to sneak in some damage with our cheap creatures, and our removal can dispatch the early threats from opposing aggro decks, but when it comes to having better card for card quality than our opponents we’re just a little lacking. It doesn’t matter how solid your list is, budget or not, if the strategy overall just folds to an uro, and not all of your losses will be chalked up to your deck being cheaper than your opponents. It’s very easy to become discouraged when taking a budget list to an event and flopping, blaming your lack of investment for your lack of results. But sometimes its just a matter of your deck choice too, and that you picked the wrong deck to bring to an event. One thing that i’ve learned over my years of brewing with budget lists is that any deck, well enough tuned and piloted, can take down any tournament at any time.
GB Delirium does a fantastic approximation of a midrange game plan in the modern format. It won’t net you the results that a full no-budget list might, but that isn’t the point of playing a budget deck. You don’t play budget decks to spike tournaments. You play them to get into formats, to learn, to get better, and to grow as a player. You’re meant to toss your budget deck to the wayside when you’re done with it, if you want. If you like the strategy, a majority of the time you can also use it as a base to build into the no-budget version of the archetype you wanted to play in the first place. If you take two players, both brand new to Modern UWx Control, and run them through series of tournaments with the only difference between the two players being that the first was playing a budget UW control deck for a year and the second is going in blind, the first will come out with a better record almost every time. They put in the time to learn the deck even before they could get their hands on it in full, and that practice will pay off.
Moving 'round to the finisher, I just want to say that playing a budget deck doesn’t make you a bad player, it makes you someone who’s going to be a great player someday, and someone who recognises the value in investing time and learning. If you’re forced into playing on a budget, that’s alright. There’s options for you to play as competitively as possible. If you’re just unsure about whether you’d like the format you’re jumping into or not, that’s also alright, there’s room for you to grow.

(The Political and Demographic Survey for Lovers of the Global Poor was fielded periodically in five waves from mid-August 2019 through mid-January 2020. It was made possible with a generous grant from the Open Society Foundations, a philanthropic venture founded by George Soros.)
This unscientific survey and its modest samples are by no means a definitive account of this community's attitudes or demography, and I've identified at least a few methodological shortcomings. Two of them — namely, the limited answer selection for favorability questions and the wording of one option in the religious affiliation query — are described below.
More significantly, however, my decision to prioritize insights about the demographic makeup of this subreddit (wherein I limited each respondent to one wave to prevent duplicates) necessarily came at the expense of revelations about its political opinions. As a result, it is impossible to exclude the possibility that apparent trends between one wave and the next are not due at least in part to a response pool whose politics are systematically different from previous ones.
But with the above caveats laid out, I present to you — at long last — the topline findings and corresponding analyses from my personal contribution to the Neoliberal Project!

Favorability¹
Opinions of 🏳️‍🌈 (91.6) soar sky-high, with nearly 9 in 10 expressing a favorable view. In a not-so-close second is 👩‍⚖️ (84.2) for whom close to 8 in 10 have a positive opinion. 💎 (80.9) is the second-placed Democratic candidate, with nearly 3 in 4 offering a positive view, with nobody else even remotely close.
👵🏼 (46.1) finds herself slightly underwater, with a –7.7% net rating, and 👮🏾‍♀️ (43.2) is close behind. Of the five highest-polling candidates at the time of the survey, 🥀 (12.1) finds himself in an ignominious last, with just under a mere 1 in 10 giving a favorable view.
However, nobody on the left side of the aisle can come close to 🍊🤴 (1.4), who lands just a hair above being universally despised.

The overwhelming majority — 8 in 10 — of neoliberal are willing to hold their noses and vote for 🥀 were he the nominee, but the percentage shrunk by just over 1 percent in every successive wave but one, while the number of defectors reached a high of 8 percent in the fourth before receding somewhat. This is perhaps due to the increasingly bitter nature of the primary.

By a 7215 margin, neoliberals support changing the individual income tax schedule in the United States to add 40 and 45 percent brackets for respective annual incomes over $1,000,000 and $2,500,000. (The difference between the waves with highest and lowest margins in favor are statistically significant, although the reason behind this is unclear.)

On the flipside, significantly raising tax rates on higher corporate income brackets while cutting them for lower ones receives a cool reception: just under 1 in 3 expressed support for the proposed change. Many (1 in 5) were unsure, however, and the percentage of opponents falls short of majority level.
Notably, following an initial dip, approval of the proposition increased significantly from Wave 2 to Wave 5. Again, it is not clear what was behind this shift.

There is an explanation that likely accounts for this precipitous change: 🛹's politically risky proposal for a mandatory buyback of AR–15s, as well as perhaps prior preference for sub-favorite 🏳️‍🌈, who was its most vocal opponent.

neoliberal is a downright fraternity, with over 9 in 10 respondents identifying themselves as male and just 6 percent as female. The remaining 1 in 40 or so identified beyond the gender binary.
(I did not try to break out transgender males and females specifically, fearing that the small figures might convey more noise than signal.)

An alternate tagline for this community could be "Zoomer Nation," as a 3 in 5 majority are too young to be included in the Census Bureau's calculation of the percentage of Americans with a college degree. The pattern in the remainder of the sample was scarcely any less stark: 1 in 3 were between the ages of 25 and 34. A vanishing 1 percent — 9 respondents — were 45 or older.

Limited to the 40 percent of respondents aged at least 25, this subsample offers yet another indication of how vastly different the userbase of neoliberal is from the general population. With nearly 6 in 7 seniors harboring a bachelor's degree — and 3 in 8 having at taken courses further beyond — the community comprises an elite stock. (As of 2018, 35 percent of Americans in the same age range have graduated college.)

Considering the proportion of respondents from the United States ⬇️, Asian neoliberals (8.4%) were overrepresented and users of mixed ancestry (7.0%) even more so, while Hispanic (4.5%) and Black (3.2%) members fell far short of their representation in the general population.

neoliberal is a highly secular community, with 2 in 3 stating their irreligiosity, while about 23 percent identified as Christians and 10 percent professed their affiliation with another religion.
(It's worth pointing out that these numbers are meaningfully out of line with a survey conducted of this subreddit two years ago, wherein a full 80 percent selected one of the religiously unaffiliated options and just 5 percent reported identification with another religion. It is possible that the use of "Unaffiliated" instead of "No religion" as the third selection confused certain respondents.)

Greetings, this is dumnem, also known as Theorchero, but you can call me Theo. I'm an experienced Tarkov player and I'm writing this guide to try and assist new Tarkov players learn the game, because it has one hell of a learning curve. We'll be going over a lot of different aspects of this guide, and it is going to be huge. Feel free to digest this in parts.

Disclaimer: I haven't played Tarkov regularly in a couple months. It's possible there has been extensive changes that I have not kept up with. If there is anything I have gotten wrong or may have omitted, please let me know.
This is Primarily directed towards Tarkov Novices. It hopefully includes everything you need to know to be able to go into a Raid equipped for success and to successfully extract with gear.

Tarkov Overview - What is Escape from Tarkov?

Escape from Tarkov is a tactical, realistic, FPS with MMO elements developed by Battlestate Games. It is currently in closed Beta. The game features several maps in which your primary character, your PMC, goes into Raids in order to find and salvage loot and useful equipment to survive and thrive in Tarkov. Death is very punishing in Tarkov. If you die you lose everything you had on you when you die (with the exception of what's inside your Container and your melee weapon) including any equipment you brought with you or what you found inside the Raid.
Enemies can be players (PMCs) or 'Scavs' (Scavengers) that are either controlled by AI or by players. Unlike many shooters, AI enemies in Tarkov are deadly - they can and will kill you on sight.
It features beautiful and immersive environments, intricate and in-depth weapon modification system, a complex health system, attention to detail with loot placement, and options for combat. Do you want to play slow and stealthy, to avoid fights, or set up a deadly ambush on an unwary foe? Or do you prefer to raw combat, where only your quick wit, placements of shots, and tenaciousness determines who gets out alive? It's your Tarkov. You make the rules.

Tarkov's Maps

Tarkov features several maps - ranging from wide, beautiful vistas to ruined factory districts, to an abandoned laboratory where illegal experiments were being conducted. It is important to learn the maps you intend to play. In order to keep your gear, you must 'extract' at one of your designated exfiltration points. Not all exfils will be active every game, and some are conditional.
To see what extracts are available to you, double tap 'O' to show raid time and your exfils. If it has a ???? it might not be open.
You can load Raids in an OFFLINE status, which allows you to explore the map or practice against AI without losing gear.
You do not keep any EXP or gear you find in the OFFLINE Raid, though.
To access OFFLINE Raids, head into a Raid normally until you see this screen.
Simply check 'Enable OFFLINE mode for this Raid' and you're good to go! You even have a choice on whether or not to add AI. You can also control how many AI enemies spawn, fewer than normal or a great deal more! You can even make Scavs fight each other. (Framerates beware.)

Factory

Gate 3 Extract
A small, fast-paced map that was primarily created for PvP. Scavs spawn in all the time. Very close quarters, shotguns and SMGs tend to dominate here. PMCs can only access one Exit (Gate 3) without the Factory Exit Key. Good place to go if you need PMC kills as action is pretty much guaranteed. It is recommend NOT to bring in a lot of gear to Factory until you are experienced.

Customs

Extract map
A fairly large map that was recently expanded. Essentially, players spawn either on 'warehouse' or 'boiler (stacks)' side. If you see a large red warehouse near you (Customs Warehouse), then you spawned on the warehouse side. If you don't, you likely spawned near Boiler side.
The location for most quests in the game. Finding geared players here is very easy, so if you are low level attempting to complete early quests (like The Bronze Pocketwatch) it's recommend to AFK in the raid for 20 mins or so, as most players will have moved out of spawns and hit the 'hot' areas already, so it's less likely to be contested, so you may grab your quest item(s) and proceed immediately to Exfil.
Contains a Scav Boss, which is a group of scavs with above-average to high-tier gear that has a chance to spawn in Dorms or Gas Station.

Woods

Woods Map with Exfil
A very large map that is mostly just a large forest, with the occasional bunker, and the Lumber Mill in the center. The Lumber Mill is the primary point of interest, as it contains a couple quest locations and is the primary location to farm Scavs, as Scavs killed on woods is the only known location to find the Arsenal Key, which is the rarest and most valuable key in the game at the moment.
Since the map is so large and open, sniper rifles with scopes usually reign king here. You will see a lot of players with Mosin rifles as they are a cheap way to train the Sniper skill (for a quest later on) and are capable of killing geared players and scavs alike.
Overall, not usually very populated. An early quest from Prapor sends you here to kill a number of Scavs. A good map to learn the game, as although the loot is not fantastic, you can get experience with how the game runs and operates while fighting AI and possibly getting lucky with a key find off a scav.

Shoreline

Shoreline Map, with Loot, Exfil, etc
A very large map, notorious for its FPS hit. Generally speaking, one of the better maps for loot.
The primary point of interest is the Resort, but scavs spawn there, and is primarily occupied by hatchlings (players only with hatchet, ie melee weapon) and geared players. Resort has great loot, but requires keys to access most of it.
A great map to learn though from new players as the outskirts still contains plenty of loot and combat opportunities with AI scavs. You can hit Villa, Scav Island, Weather station, Docks, etc and come out with a backpack full of valuable gear fairly easily.
Location of many quests, including a large quest chain where players are required to kill many, many, scavs on Shoreline.

Interchange

Detailed map
Great, great loot area, but very complex map. Doesn't run very well on old computers. Features a mostly-binary exfil system like Shoreline, but.. kinda worse. Exfil camping is fairly common on this map. Huge map with multiple floors and many many different stores. Communication with teammates is a challenge on this map, but the map is also fantastically detailed.
This map features a lot of loot that depends on the kind of store you're in. It's a great place to farm rare barter materials which are valuable to sell on the Flea market or to use for quests. An early quest (from Ragman) sends you here to kill a large amount of Scavs. I'd recommend getting Ragman to level 2 and accepting his quest before going to Interchange, as getting this quest done can take a while as it is and you want all scav kills to count towards progress.

The Lab ('Labs')

This is a very complex map, so I highly recommend you read the Wiki article and look at all the maps to get an idea of what it's like.

INSURANCE DOES NOT WORK ON THIS MAP.

If you purchase insurance and lose your items on this map, doesn't matter from whom, you will not get them back.

LABS IS NOT LIKE OTHER MAPS. READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY.

Labs is by far the most lucrative map to play at the moment. You can easily earn several million roubles per hour by killing Raiders (Juiced-up scavs that are ONLY on Labs), looting their equipment, then running to one of the many, many extracts. Extract camping is hard to pull off and pretty much not viable on Labs.
DISCLAIMER: Labs, like much of Tarkov, is under constant development, so issues may be fixed or created without warning. Always check patch notes!

Raiders

Raiders are the avatars of Death in Tarkov, clad in USEC and BEAR hats, high-end armor, and plenty of firepower to boot. Do not fight Raiders directly. They WILL kill you. Raiders are absolutely broken this patch, and are getting fixed next patch to help fix their exploits of both poor AI and how they're a little.. insane. At the moment, the only way to kill raiders is to camp a hallway, room, or door, and attract the scavs to you, headshotting them the moment they enter before they have a chance to lock onto you.
Raiders can see you through and shoot you through surfaces you cannot.
This means you have to be very careful when engaging them. They are also often equipped with very high-end ammo, meaning that most faceshields (even Killa helmets) can be useless vs a Scav who spawned with 'big boy' ammo, 7N39. They can shoot your head if it's even slightly visible. They can prone instantly, as they have no ping. If they drop without slumping over, get to cover immediately.
Typically, strategies to farm Labs (barring rushing certain rooms for static loot) involve rushing a camp-spot and baiting raiders to your location and taking them out quickly, efficiently, and with no mercy. There are many locations to camp, and since there's so many exfiltrations, it's ultimately up to personal preference.
Raiders often spawn with armor (often Troopers and Gen4s) a rig (Sniper or Ana Alpha rig, usually) and a variety helmets and weapons. Always check the ammo the raiders spawn with. If they spawn with ANYTHING other than PS (and 12 gauge) LOOT IT! You can right click their magazine and hit 'unload ammo' to get the ammo without having to grab the mags, which saves space.
BS, BT, BP, 7N39, etc can be worth several hundred roubles a round on the market. They're extremely valuable.
Additionally, Raiders spawn IFAKS, Morphine, and grenades (F-1 & Flashbangs (Zarya)) with regularity. They can also spawn with random consumables and large clumps of cash in their pockets as well. They can spawn several backpacks, most of them being rather large, if relatively uncommon.
Additionally, Raiders can have American names, breach doors, and mumble as if they are a USEC PMC because some of the Raiders are actually USECs. You will learn with experience what the Scavs will or will not say.
Experience Farming on Labs
Labs is perhaps the best place to farm experience on the current patch.
Killing a Raider with a headshot awards 1100 Experience.
This does not include any looting, inspection (searching bodies), examine, streak, or other experience.
Killing a large sequence of Raiders gives additional bonus experience in the form of Streak rewards, usually 100 bonus exp per additional kill.
Surviving the raid multiplies all of these sources of experience by 1.5x
Changes coming to Labs
Disclaimer: I am not a BSG developer or employee. This is what I have seen on this subreddit and heard elsewhere. Some might be purely rumor, but other points are confirmed by Nikita.
Labs is currently undergoing an overhaul. At the moment, you require consumable Keycards to enter Labs, which may be purchased from Therapist or bartered Mechanic in exchange for 1 Bitcoin starting at Loyalty Level II. They can also be found in drawers and jackets. Scavs can drop permanent keycards that replace most keys used in the previous iteration of labs.
The full extent of the changes coming is not known.
Remember, you can load a map in OFFLINE mode to practice against bots or to learn the map without fear of losing gear.

Tarkov's Health System

Tarkov Wiki Article
Tarkov has a very advanced health system, and while it might seem overwhelming at first, you'll get the hang of it rather quickly. It features a very wide variety of effects and injury, including hydration, energy, blood pressure, blood loss, fractures, contusion, intoxication, exhaustion, tremors and more.
Not all of the Health System is implemented yet. Expect changes!
Your character (PMC, or otherwise) has a combined Health of 435. Each of his limbs have separate health. Taking damage to a limb that reduces it to 0 'blacks' that limb. Blacked limbs are a problem. They greatly impair the activities your PMC performs, and taking damage in a blacked limb amplifies the damage by a multiplier and spreads that damage among your other non-black limbs equally. You cannot heal a blacked limb.
Notes: Bloodloss applies damage to the affected limb and can be spread like other damage to a blacked limb. Treat immediately. Also causes significant dehydration!
Losing a limb applies additional effects. Fractures also apply these effects but not the damage amplification (Except for damage if running on fractured leg.)
Dehydration is what happens when your Hydration level reaches 0. You can view your Hydration level in your gear page, at the bottom left. Becoming dehydrated is extremely bad. You take constant damage. Taking dehydration damage can kill you if you have a black chest or head.
Head/Chest: Bullet damage resulting in losing your head or chest is instant death. Note: Bloodloss resulting in your Head/Chest being black does not result in death, but any damage to them beyond that point will! A back chest will causes you to cough (much like your stomach!)
Painkillers: Prevents coughing that comes from your chest. Doesn't help otherwise.
Stomach: Massively increased rate of dehydration and energy loss. You must find liquids or exit the Raid soon. Additionally, your PMC will cough sputter loudly, attracting attention.
Painkillers: Significantly reduces the frequency and volume of the coughs.
Arms: Makes activities like searching, reloading, etc, take additional time, as well as adding a sway, reducing accuracy. Arms have a .7x damage multiplier.
Painkillers: Reduces sway, removes debuff Pain.
Legs: Blacked legs cause your PMC to stumble and be unable to run. Blacked legs have a 1x damage multiplier.
Painkillers: Allows you to walk at full speed and to run.
WARNING: Running while your legs are blacked or fractured WILL DAMAGE YOU.
Health Items
Tarkov features many health items - 'Aid' items, which can be used to restore your characters health and to fix ailments or injuries he receives as the result of combat or mishaps. The two most important health conditions to consider are bloodloss and fractures, which have both been covered above. Some food items may have ancillary effects, such as losing hydration.
Since in the current patch the only ailments to worry about are bleeding and fractures, it changes which health items are most necessary. We'll go over them below.

Health Restoration

Medical Items on Wiki
AI-2 medkit
The newb's medical kit. You receive several of these when you start Tarkov - they'll already be in your stash. Available from Level I Therapist, they are cheap and effective way of healing early in the game. They will not stop bloodloss. Because of this, you also need to bring bandages or a higher-grade medical kit.
Affectionately called 'little cheeses' by the Tarkov community. Using it takes 2 seconds, and because of how cheap it is, it's often brought in by higher level players to supplement their healing without draining their main kit (which is capable of healing bloodloss or sometimes fractures). Due to its short use time, it's often very useful during combat as you can take cover and quickly recover damage taken to a vital limb.
Bandages
The newb's bloodloss solution. Available from Therapist at Level I. A better version, the Army Bandage is available at Level II, after a quest. Mostly obsolete after unlocking the Car Medical kit. Activating takes 4 seconds, and removes bloodloss to one limb.
Splint
The newb's solution to fractures. Cheap, takes five seconds to use, and takes up 1 slot. Not generally recommended to take because fractures effects can be greatly mitigated with the use of Painkillers. Available from Therapist at Level I, no quest needed.
Car Medical Kit
The newb's first real medical solution. Available LL1 as a barter (2 Duct Tape) and available for Roubles after completing Therapist's second quest. Has a larger health pool than AI-2's (220, vs AI-2's 100), and removes bloodloss. Takes up a 1x2 slot, so requires to be placed in a tactical rig in order to be used effectively. Cheap and fairly efficient, takes a standard 4 seconds to use. Rendered effectively obsolete when the Salewa is unlocked.
Salewa
Good medkit for use in mid and end-game. Contains 400 total health and can remove bloodloss. Relatively expensive at 13k roubles per kit, though. Same size as the Car medical kit, so requires a tactical rig to use effectively. Because Tarkov does not currently have effects like Toxication in the game at the moment, this kit is favored by most players who go into a raid with at least a moderate level of gear.
Unlocked at Therapist Level II after completing a level 10 Prapor quest, Postman Pat Part II.
IFAK
Fantastic medical kit, and is the one preferred by most players. Features 300 health and the ability to remove bloodloss and a host of other negative effects that are not yet implemented into the game. It does not, however, remove fractures. Taking up only a single slot, it is favored by players in all stages of gear, and it is recommend to carry one in your Secure Container in case of emergencies. Is available at Therapist Level II for a barter (Sugar + Sodium), and may be purchased for Roubles at Level III after completing Healthcare Privacy, Part I.
It is a fairly expensive kit, but due to its durability, its small size, and ability to remove bloodloss, it is a very common medical item used by players of all levels.
Grizzly
The 'big daddy' medical kit, boasting an impressive total health resource of 1800. It is also a very large kit, taking up 4 slots (2x2) - in order to be able to use this quickly, it would require specialized tactical rigs that feature a 2x2 slot. It removes all negative effects (some costing HP resource), including fractures.
Used by highly-geared players who intend on staying in raids for an extended period of time, or by players with additional Secure Container space available in case of emergencies. It is available for barter at Therapist Level II, and purchase at Therapist Level 4.

Pain Management

Using any of these items results in your character being 'On Painkillers' which allows you to sprint on fractured and blacked legs, as well as reducing effects of fractures and blacked limbs, and removing the debuff Pain. Essentially, the only difference between most of these items are the speed of use, price, availability, and duration of the effect.
Analgin Painkillers
The holy grail of pain medication. With the recent changes, "Painkillers" now have 4 total uses, not 1. The total duration is now greater than Morphine and less risk of waste. Takes a short time to use, and is available from Therapist Level 1 for both barter and Roubles.
Morphine
Quick application of painkillers. Favored by some highly geared players as it has greater usability in combat then it's typical counterpart, Painkillers. Has a longer duration, but only one use. Is required for a fairly early Therapist (and a late Peacekeeper) Quest, so it is recommend to hoard 10 of them, then sell the rest unless you intend on using them. They are worth a good amount to Therapist and take up little space so they are a valuable loot item. Available from Therapist for Roubles at Level 4, after completing Healthcare Privacy, Part 3.
Augmentin
Basically a cheaper Morphine. One use, 260s. Not recommended over Painkillers due to its cost. No current barter for this item, so usually it's just a fairly expensive, small loot item to sell to Therapist when found.
Ibuprofen
Powerful painkiller. Lasts 600 seconds and has 12 uses. However, it is not recommended to use it as a Painkiller. It is very valuable because it cannot be purchased from Dealers, it must be found, and it is a barter component to late-game containers, the Keytool and THICC Items Case.
Vaseline
Powerful medical item. Cannot be purchased from dealers. Has 10 uses. Removes Pain.
Golden Star Balm
Fairly useful medical item. It can remove Pain and Contusion (not a big deal of a debuff, goes away on its own shortly) and provides a small bonus to hydration and energy. However, because Hydration is usually easy to restore (Liquids are easy to find as 'common' or 'trash' tier loot), and Energy at the moment can't run to 0 within current Raid timers, it is Recommended to just to sell to Therapist as a Loot item.
Medical Injectors are not covered here. Essentially, they are powerful but niche items with strong side effects. Most recommended use is to store them in your Secure Container and sell them either on the Flea Market or to Therapist for roubles.
To be able to Hotkey a medicine item, they must be in a tactical rig or your pockets.

Tarkov's Quest, Progression, and Experience Systems

Tarkov features a very immersive progression system where your main character (PMC) is going into raids to acquire loot - goods that can be sold for a profit to other players, to Dealers (NPC Merchants), or used to fulfill quest requirements in order to complete them and receive your rewards. Additionally, your main character will increase their prowess in a number of skills, which increases everything from how much they can run, increases the ease of which recoil can be controlled, and even how far you can throw grenades. These are referred to 'soft skills.'
Additionally, your PMC is assigned a Level. You can increase your Level by earning Experience - which is rewarded by performing numerous tasks throughout the Raid, completing quests, examining new items, killing other players and Scavs, etc. Successfully extracting from a raid will increase the experience you earn from the raid via a multiplier.
Increasing your PMC's level will allow you to complete additional quests, which increases your Reputation with certain Dealers (and may reduce your Reputation with others) allowing you access to better equipment to purchase. Additionally, completing quests will often reward you with large sums of currency and sometimes equipment, and certain quests unlock items for purchase from that dealer.
A Dealer's arsenal of available weapons, ammo, mods, medication, containers, and etc to purchase by you is determined by their Loyalty Level - or LL, for short. Certain Dealers specialize in different kinds of equipment, and they will pay different rates or straight up not buy particular items. In a future release, eventually Dealers will offer discounts to the player based off their Loyalty Level.

Increasing Loyalty Level

Increasing your Trader's loyalty level is extremely important to your progression and overall success in Tarkov. Being able to purchase better Ammo and Equipment is essential to being able to fight other players and secure their loot for your own. Owning Prepare for Escape and Edge of Darkness (EoD) editions of Escape from Tarkov will increase your starting Reputations with Traders. It is unclear if this change will stay after the game's full release.
Typically though, you need three things to increase your Trader's level.
  • Reputation
This is accomplished via quests. Completing a quest will reward you with an increase in the quest givers' reputation, sometimes an increase in another trader's reputation, and sometimes will reduce the Reputation of another trader. Not all Traders need a certain level of Reputation to increase their loyalty Level to II. Peacekeeper and Ragman, for example, just need you to spend a certain amount of money with them.
  • Character Level and Experience Gain
The primary gate behind your trade level (and thus your overall economy and gear leverage) is your Character Level. You increase this by gaining Experience. The easiest way to gain experience is to Loot high value areas, fight players, and kill scavs while completing quests. Generally speaking, your level will advance as you play the game at a moderate pace. One way to farm experience though is to avoid looting all-together and just focus on killing a large number of scavs from a safe distance, after learning where they tend to spawn on any given map. This patch however, labs is fantastic for experience gain. (See above.) Another strategy (albeit one that takes longer) is to loot everything, then drop what you don't want. You gain experience for finding items and picking them up, so picking them up to drop them is technically the best way to gain the most exp per kill.
You can receive additional bonuses to Experience earned. Successfully extracting will increase your experience by a multiplier, typically 1.5x the experience gained during the raid, escaping also rewards a 300 exp Escape bonus which is added to your total before the multiplier is applied.
You can also receive experience bonuses for Exploration, so visiting different parts of the map will reward you with sums of experience, usually 100 to 300 or so. Killing multiple enemies in a row will reward you with Streaks, whose rewards increase as you get more kills. Getting a kill with a Headshot also significantly improves experience gain from kills. You also receive a (very small) bonus when you survive consecutive raids.
Note: Completing a Raid too early (via extraction) will cause you to receive a Run-Through status, which reduces experience earned in that raid by 50%.
Most Quests require you to be a certain level to unlock, and upon completion rewards you with a lot of exp and usually the ability to purchase specific equipment.
  • Money Spent
This is pretty self-explanatory. As mentioned above, Peacekeeper and Ragman can be increased easily just be selling and buying from them. If you need to artifically inflate the amount spent, a good idea is to purchase a large amount of cheap items from them and sell them back to the Trader. You still take a significant loss, usually around 50-60% per purchase, but since the money spent counts both items sold to the vendor and purchases, you get about 140-150% credit per item at about half the cost.

Selling Efficiency

Not all dealers pay the same for certain items. It is important to note that a lot of this is my personal experience, and prices can fluctuate as the Developers may change them for any reason. Use your own common sense and check various dealers before selling particularly lucrative items.

Prapor

Sells AKs, Magazines, many different Ammo types, Grenades, and weapon modifications. I don't tend to sell to him very often, as he doesn't pay the highest for any items that I have personally seen and because you tend to buy most Ammo and mags from him it's not a particular issue to level him up with money spent.

Therapist

Sells medical supplies, food and drink, and storage cases, which are items that effectively increase the size of your stash because they have more space inside than they take up. Most storage items are restricted to certain item types. Pays most for items like Keys, Statues, Rolers, Bitcoin, etc. Many of these items should be sold on the market instead of to her, but often times it's not worth the hassle.

Fence

Pays least for items, sells items for more than other Dealers. Items other players have sold will appear here. Only sell items to Fence that other dealers will not take! Basically a placeholder for an expanded Market.

Skier

Sells various weapons, mods, ammo, Euros, and containers. Pays most for items like Armor, backpacks, headgear, facemasks, flashlights, sights, etc. It is important to note, that Skier will not buy Weapons or most Mods. That means for things like flashlights, you have to take the flashlights/sights off the mount or rail in order for him to buy them, but he pays the best.

Peacekeeper

Deals entirely in Western equipment, UN armor, helmets, etc. Will buy most items, but will pay USD for them. Deals entirely in USD. One good way to get his money spent requirement is just to buy USD, which is used for a later quest from Skier, which unlocks his quest chain. He has a lot of good deals, experiment for yourself. At the moment his MP5 for 10 'bars' knives (scav knives) is an exceptionally good deal and easy to accomplish for new players.

Mechanic

Sells mostly completed weapons with various modifications and unique names, and mods. Sells magazines and some ammo. Offers containers as you progress. His quests are easy to complete, but often are money dumps in exchange for large sums of EXP more than anything else. Pays the most for modifications (except for sights and suppressors) and stripped guns.

Ragman

Sells backpacks, armor, tactical vests, and helmets mostly. Offers aesthetic clothing. Can obtain LL2 by just purchasing from him, does not require reputation. In fact, his first quest tasks you with that very objective. As far as I can see, he does not pay the most for any items in particular. But he is a very useful merchant once you have him at level 2. He will sell Scav Backpacks, which are an extremely efficient backpack to use as it's fairly large but very cheap.
Rule of Thumb for selling items at most value
Weapons: Strip the weapon! Take apart ALL pieces of it (including gas tubes, separating flashlights from ring mounts, etc), sell what you can to Skier. For the rest, sell to Mechanic.
Keys, Food, Medical Items, Statues, Bitcoin, Rolers, etc: Therapist or the Market. For items like this, ALWAYS check the Market first! A lot of these kinds of items are in valuable trades or are required for quests; this means that other players are often willing to pay more for them, above trader prices.

A Complete Rework of the Elder Scrolls: Legends - Part 2: Supports, Lanes and Battlegrounds

Introduction

Hello again everyone! This is part two of my Complete Rework of the Elder Scrolls Legends. As I said in my previous post, even though my rework is fundamentally based on criticism, my intent is for this to be a positive and fun project, done out of a desire to explore the mechanics and design ESL has and could have. Realistically, I know that such major reworks to ESL are never going to happened. Still, I am doing this for my own enjoyment, to promote discussion of the game, and maybe Sparky will get some inspiration out of it.
In part two, I have reworked the support and lane system, primarily through the introduction of a new card type Battleground which many supports have been reworked into.

Issues to address

To briefly touch on what I hoped to solve in part 2 of the rework, and the starting point for my thought process:
  • Remove the binary nature of supports/support removal
  • Make lanes meaningful and affect both player’s strategies
  • Promote trading on the board, and/or disincentivise abandoning lanes.
  • Reduce frustrating experiences from the two lane and cover system.

Battleground

The new card type I have introduced for the rework is called Battleground, with most existing Supports having been reworked into a Battleground. After the rework, most Supports are now activated supports, while Battlegrounds are supplanting the role of most ongoing Supports. Thematically, Battlegrounds are meant to represent where the battle between the forces of the two players are fighting or their base.
How it works
Battleground: Create an ongoing effect in one lane that affects both players.
When a Battleground is played, it creates a lane effect in the chosen lane (along with any Summon effect it may have). The Battleground lane effect affects both players, meaning your opponent can also be helped or hindered by the new lane effect. Only one Battleground from each player can be active in each lane. (Both players can have a Battleground in play in each lane). When a player plays a Battleground on a lane where they already have one, the Battleground in play is destroyed.
Supports and Battleground can no longer be destroyed (with one exception with Edict of Azura) and have been designed around this. See the “What the Battleground/Support Rework achieves" for details.

Example Battleground

Northwind Outpost
Strength – Battleground - 2 Magicka
Summon: Deal 1 damage to all creatures in this lane.
Whenever a creature is summoned or moved to this lane, deal 1 damage to it.
I have reworked all the related Battleground/Support cards. You can find them in this Google Spreadsheet.
Disclaimer: Though I have made an effort, I do not claim these reworked cards to be well-balanced. They are meant primarily as a proof of concept.

Shadow Lane and other Lanes

This is an issue I’m undecided about. I am unsure whether to have the Shadow Lane (Cover) removed when the first Battleground is removed, or whether the Shadow Lane effect should be permanent. At this point in time, I think the Shadow Lane should be removed on Battleground play for two reasons. First, the Shadow Lane arguably becomes redundant when a different interesting effect comes into play. Secondly, the Cover lane disincentives creature trading, something which I wish to improve, and creates frustrating experiences where you lose to damage from a creature you are unable to deal with despite having board control.
As for other lanes, such as in solo arena or story mode, I don’t see any reason why the Battleground can’t coexist alongside permanent lane effects, where the Battleground doesn’t replace the effect. Regardless, this is mostly a single-player issue and beyond the scope of this rework.

Addressing Redundancy

One issues I came across while designing Battlegrounds was the issue of redundancy. Given that a player can only have 2 Battlegrounds in play at once, and can't be removed, then any excess Battlegrounds in hand would be useless. To address this, I have done two things:
Firstly, most Battlegrounds have summon effects. This means that Battlegrounds can be used as pseudo-actions when needed, and means that Battleground cards can still provide some value even when played twice on the same lane.
Secondly, I have tried to design Battlegrounds that incentivize switching between them, such as reworked Swindler's Market. Some Battlegrounds you may naturally want to switch to and from depending on the state of the game, such as a health gain Battleground earlier to help stabilize, then a more aggressive one to go for the win.

What the Battleground/Support Rework achieves

Supports (and Battlegrounds) are no longer have binary removal outcomes
Support removal currently in ESL creates very binary outcomes. Either your opponent has support removal and you gain very little value out of your support, or your opponent has no way to remove it and you gain a permanent, high value advantage. This can create undesirable coin-flippy games. Similarly, there is no scalability. A 2 magicka support is removed by the same card as a 7 magicka support. This renders high magicka, and low tempo supports essentially unplayable. Of the few supports that currently see play, it is usually because they can provide a tempo boost or some immediate value on play (e.g. Divine Fervor).
This issue is hard to resolve. Eventually, my solution was a straightforward one. Make Battlegrounds/Supports unremovable and balance them around that fact. The Battlegrounds I have created are (mostly) designed to be low value/impact, but create a long lasting incremental effect that forces both players to play differently.
Edict of Azura is the only card currently that can remove a Battlefield, providing a unique ability to Spellsword. Activated supports still have "soft hard" counters that remove single use from them, which provides some direct counters without completely crushing any support strategy.
Promote dynamic play
The game plan of decks change little from game to game and match to match. Battlegrounds aims to create dynamic play, where different matchups will have different battleground combinations, one from each player. This creates variation in games, and incentivises players to adjust their plan and decision making to best make use of the Battlegrounds, as they can make use of their opponent’s Battleground as well.
Incentivise fighting for board control, or disincentivise abandoning lanes.
A major complaint in ESL currently is the lack of interactively on the board, particularly with trading creatures. Aggro decks tend to avoid trading, go face and abandon a lane when it begins their opponent gains control of that lane. Ramp Warrior tends to just stall until in can pull off win-con combos. Battleground aims to incentivise players to fight for control of lane through two ways: Firstly, many of the Battlegrounds give strong boons when you play into them (“while you have a creature in this lane…”) which means abandoning a lane can place you at strong disadvantage.
Secondly, as Battlegrounds can benefit both players regardless of who played it, there is an incentive to destroy or trade into your opponent’s creatures to minimise your opponent taking advantage of them (e.g. reworked Gladiator Arena).
Utilise the design space of lanes
Despite the lanes being a major mechanic that separates ESL from its similar competitors, lane effects have been essentially unexplored outside of singleplayer content. While Duke of Mania and Duchess of Dementia show the beginning of a change in design philosophy for lanes, my criticism of them is they don’t directly affect the board state, which I think should be a priority for lane effect. Battlegrounds utilises an unused design space and adds depth without needless complexity.
Reduce frustrating experiences
This is admittedly a subjective topic. For myself, and many other players, one of the most frustrating and negative experiences in the game comes from your opponent pulling a win out of nowhere after gaining board control, due to the dual lane and cover system. Battlegrounds provide an option to help stabilise can offer a shield against “unfair” losses by providing an active defence against them. (e.g. reworked Spider Lair).

Conclusion

The 2019 /r/baseball Offseason Simulation is over. Here are the Rays' Results!

Dear Flappybois, Flappygirles, and Non-Binary Flappypals,

In my third year of participating in the /baseball Offseason Simulation, a game where 30+ users pretend to either run a team to make trades and signings, act as an agent for Free Agent players, or act in an administrative role as moderators over the course of a few months, I took the helm of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

The Rays were my first choice team for the Sim this year, as I relished the challenge of trying to compete in the AL East with a strong core and very little budget space to work with. (As an aside, I’m an A’s fan in real life, so I have a soft spot for small-market teams with small payrolls, good player development, and bad stadium situations).

The Sim officially wrapped up yesterday, so I thought I’d share my results here. The moderators of the sim will be putting everyone’s rosters into an OOTP simulation, and seeing who wins the Sim-World Series!

For a complete look at my roster, payroll, transactions, lineups, and more, check out the Rays’ Spreadsheet. I would love to hear feedback, questions, and opinions from this community! I just ask that you keep it civil and constructive, since this is all in good fun.

First, my goals for the offseason:

As you will see, I managed to accomplish almost all of them! Division Title TBD.

SIGNINGS

Dallas Keuchel, 3 years, $64 MM
  • $18 MM in 2019, $24 MM in 2020, $22 MM in 2021. Mutual Option for 2022 worth $22 MM, with a $2.5 MM buyout.
There were big sweepstakes for the large ticket FA’s in the sim this year (Machado, Harper, Corbin), and people seemed to forget that Dallas Keuchel existed. Despite my minuscule budget ($62.5 Million), my team was very cheap, and I ended up near the end of the Sim with about $20 million of space left. Given my available space, the fact that most of my team my was Pre-Arb, and the fact that Keuchel’s agent was willing to do three guaranteed years, I pulled the trigger and got a very solid mid-rotation pitcher, with good control, lots of groundballs, and one who can pitch lots of innings.

Tony Sipp, 2/$7 MM
  • $3.5 MM in 2019 and 2020. Vesting Option for 2021 worth $6 MM if he pitches 45+ innings each in 2019 and 2020.
Sipp's 16 and 17 seasons were marred by unsustainably-high HFB rates, while the rest of his peripherals remained more or less constant.
He clearly learned something about pitching in Houston, and was cheap enough that taking a chance that he re-creates his 14/15/18 seasons was an easy decision.

Jesse Chavez, 1/$4 MM
  • $4 MM in 2019. Team Option for 2020 worth $4 MM.
Jesse Chavez is a prime Opener candidate, if you ask me: Effective as a one-inning reliever, good pitch mix, and has had experience starting, meaning he could open for 1+ innings if the need arose. Getting him on a cheap one-year deal is nice, and if he’s good, we can pick him up for the second year. If not, there’s no buyout for his option!

Minor League Contracts for the following players:
  • SP Brett Anderson, C Nick Hundley, OF Jon Jay, RP Sergio Romo (#BringHimHome), 1B Mark Reynolds.
These are all (in my humble opinion) really solid depth signings. A few of these players were legitimately valuable in 2018 (Mark Reynolds, Nick Hundley), and can help out a team midseason in the dog days, filling in for injured players.

TRADES

TB-LAD
  • Rays receive: SS Ronny Brito
  • Dodgers receive: OF David Olmedo-Barrera
Currently viewed as a fringe guy in the Dodgers’ strong system, Brito is an intriguing young player. His defensive profile definitely says he can stick at SS long-term, so if his bat continues where it left off at the end of 2018, he could be valuable soon.

TB-KC
  • Royals receive: 1B Jake Bauers, RHP Chaz Roe
  • Rays receive: RHP Brad Keller, OF Blake Perkins
Bauers is cool and all, but I have like 4 other dudes in the high minors with his profile (OBP, contact) plus they have more power. KC’s GM really liked Bauers and Roe (the latter of which was on my Trade Block), so it made sense for me to trade him. As far as the return, I think Keller’s mix of high ground ball numbers and low home runs will lend themselves quite well to pitching in the AL East. Perkins is a speedy outfielder who at worst is Billy Hamilton with much better on-base skills.

TB-LAD
  • Dodgers receive: 2B/OF Brandon Lowe, 2B Vidal Brujan
  • Rays receive: RHP Ross Stripling, RHP Josh Sborz
Along with Bauers, this move was probably the one I had to ponder the most before finalizing. Brandon Lowe looks to be ready to contribute immediately, and Brujan has a pretty high ceiling, though it looks like he will be a 2B in the future. However, I feel that Ross Stripling is a very underrated player. Because of the Dodgers’ ridiculous depth, he’s never gotten a chance to stick in the rotation, but has done very well with the opportunities he’s been presented with. He slots into my roster as a solid mid-rotation pitcher, who can be used as an excellent reliever if need be. Sborz is a high-minors RP with two above-average pitches and good command. He strikes out a lot of guys and doesn’t give up home runs.

TB-NYY
  • Yankees receive: LHP Vidal Nuno
  • Rays receive: LHP Reiver Sanmartin
Nuno was also on my Trade Block, because he is not good. Sanmartin is a very intriguing lefty who has ridiculously-low walk numbers and decent K numbers.

TB-OAK-BOS
  • Red Sox receive: 2B Miles Mastrobuoni
  • A's receive: 2B Ivan Houellemont
  • Rays receive: 2B JP Sportman
After an underwhelming 2016 season with Double-A Midland, Sportman quietly put together a solid 2017 campaign with the RockHounds. Playing a career-high 130 games, Sportman hit .275/.327/.417 with 12 home runs and 14 stolen bases. He also showcased his versatility, splitting his playing time between all three outfield positions and centerfield.
Sportman has the tools to be a bench player in the big leagues. He can play multiple positions, he has a compact, line-drive swing that produces power to the gaps, and he has above-average speed. Sportman may have to begin the 2018 season back in Midland, but once the A’s have some movement either in the outfield or second base in Triple-A, he should receive a chance in Triple-A.

Yet another guy on my Trade Block that I was able to move. Font showed promise as a starter for the Dodgers’ AAA club a few years back, but has been absolutely atrocious in his MLB time. In exchange for him, I got a solid, if unremarkable, rotation depth piece in Aaron Wilkerson.

TB-TEX
  • Rays receive: C Robinson Chirinos and $2.875 MM
  • Rangers receive: OF Josh Lowe
I promise I didn’t go into the offseason with the intention of depleting our farms’ Lowe supply, it just kinda turned out that way. I like Josh Lowe, but OF is a place of strength in the organization, whereas Catcher is not. Robinson Chirinos has cemented himself as a durable catcher with a roughly league-average (or better) bat and solid defense. I think that’s easily worth the price tag.

You've probably been hearing a lot about Bitcoin recently and are wondering what's the big deal? Most of your questions should be answered by the resources below but if you have additional questions feel free to ask them in the comments.

Key properties of bitcoin
  • Limited Supply - There will only ever be 21,000,000 bitcoins created and they are issued in a predictable fashion, you can view the inflation schedule here. Once they are all issued Bitcoin will be truly deflationary.
  • Open source - Bitcoin code is fully auditable. You can read the source code yourself here.
  • Accountable - The public ledger is transparent, all transactions are seen by everyone.
  • Decentralized - Bitcoin is globally distributed across thousands of nodes with no single point of failure and as such can't be shut down similar to how Bittorrent works.
  • Censorship resistant - No one can prevent you from interacting with the bitcoin network and no one can censor, alter or block transactions that they disagree with, see Operation Chokepoint.
  • Push system - There are no chargebacks in bitcoin because only the person who owns the address where the bitcoins reside has the authority to move them.
  • Low fee - Transactions fees can vary between a few cents and a few dollars depending on network demand and how much priority you wish to assign to the transaction. Most wallets calculate the fee automatically but you can view current fees here.
  • Borderless - No country can stop it from going in/out, even in areas currently unserved by traditional banking as the ledger is globally distributed.
  • Trustless - Bitcoin solved the Byzantine's Generals Problem which means nobody needs to trust anybody for it to work.
  • Pseudonymous - No need to expose personal information when purchasing with cash or transacting.
  • Secure - Encrypted cryptographically and can’t be brute forced or confiscated with proper key management such as hardware wallets.
  • Programmable - Individual units of bitcoin can be programmed to transfer based on certain criteria being met
  • Nearly instant - From a few seconds to a few minutes depending on need for confirmations. After a few confirmations transactions are irreversible.
  • Peer-to-peer - No intermediaries with a cut, no need for trusted third parties.
  • Portable - Bitcoins are digital so they are easier to move than cash or gold. They can even be transported by simply remembering a string of words for wallet recovery.
  • Scalable - Each bitcoin is divisible down to 8 decimals allowing it to grow in value while still accommodating micro-transactions.
  • Designed Money - Bitcoin was created to fit all the fundamental properties of money better than gold or fiat

Note: Bitcoins are valued at whatever market price people are willing to pay for them in balancing act of supply vs demand. Unlike traditional markets, bitcoin markets operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Securing your bitcoins

With bitcoin you can "Be your own bank" and personally secure your bitcoins OR you can use third party companies aka "Bitcoin banks" which will hold the bitcoins for you.
  • If you prefer to "Be your own bank" and have direct control over your coins without having to use a trusted third party, there are many software wallet options here. If you want easy and secure storage without having to learn computer security best practices, then a hardware wallet such as the Trezor or Ledger is recommended. A more advanced option is to secure them yourself using paper wallets generated offline. Some popular mobile and desktop options are listed below and most are cross platform.

  • If you prefer to let third party "Bitcoin banks" manage your coins, try Coinbase or Xapo but be aware you may not be in control of your private keys in which case you would have to ask permission to access your funds and be exposed to third party risk.
Another interesting use case for physical storage/transfer is the Opendime. Opendime is a small USB stick that allows you to spend Bitcoin by physically passing it along so it's anonymous and tangible like cash.
Note: For increased security, use Two Factor Authentication (2FA) everywhere it is offered, including email!
2FA requires a second confirmation code to access your account, usually from a text message or app, making it much harder for thieves to gain access. Google Authenticator and Authy are the two most popular 2FA services, download links are below. Make sure you create backups of your 2FA codes.

[Mods] IamLupo's Mod, cheat-free version

Newest version of the mod.

For the past few weeks I've been working with IamLupo on a cheat-free version of his mod. This involved splitting it into a whole bunch of small parts that can be installed independently. The base mod has functionality required to run other mods, as well as a few features and fixes. Note that this is the first release of the mod after overhaul, so bugs might pop up. Please report any bugs you find in the comments.

Download

First, download and install the Base mod. Then, you can download and install additional mods:

Installation

Place files of the base mod in the following directory:
"Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer End Times Vermintide\binaries"
To install additional mods, place .mod files in the following directory:
"Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer End Times Vermintide\binaries\mods"

Base mod

Features left in the base mod:

  • Mod Settings - an extra tab in the options menu where mods can be tweaked.
  • System Chat - instead of console messages popping up in the chat window, they will appear above it. Also provides suggestions when entering chat commands. This is disabled by default.
  • Dice game fix: Prevents game from crashing when there are more than 7 special dice in the mission end roll. Simply removes excess dice.
  • Animations fix: Prevents game from crashing when rats or critters attempt to perform animations they don't support.

Chat commands:

  • /help - Opens a help file with these commands listed
  • /reload - Reloads IamLupo Mod (can also be achieved with Ctrl + Shift + R by default)
  • /clear - Clears system chat
  • /servername - Sets how your server is named in Lobby Browser
  • /loadfile - Executes file found in loadfile directory
  • /keyblock - Toggles all keyboard shortcuts
  • /itemlist - Exports a list of all items to ItemList.txt

Quality of Life Mods

These mods improve your experience with the game without affecting the gameplay. Download

All Ready

This mod allows you to start the game without having to wait for other people (or yourself) to Ready up. Toggle this mod on and off in Mod Settings -> System -> All Ready. Off by default.

Ban

This mod allows you to ban players from your server after they have been kicked. Keeps a ban list in mod_loadeBan_list.lua. Chat command: /ban

Chat Block

This mod adds automatic blocking when opening the chat window while holding a melee weapon. When closing the window, a push is performed. To enable go to Mod Settings -> System -> Chat Block. Off by default.

Chat History

Lets you scroll through previous messages and commands you've enetered in chat with Arrow Up and Down.

Cheat Protection

Prevents other people running this mod from crashing your game by spawning too many items.

Hud Toggle

Adds a chat command to toggle all HUD and most of the outlines. Doesn't turn off hands. Use Witch Hunter with Volley Crossbow to get rid of hands for taking nice screenshots. Chat command: /togglehud

Loadout Manager

This mod adds additional buttons to the inventory screen for saving and restoring character loadouts. Also provides shortcuts for restoring loadouts for all bots (by default): Ctrl + Alt + F1-F9 Go to Mod Settings -> Loadout Manager to change shortcuts.

Ping Self Voiceover

Overrides the "ping self" voiceover. This causes a predetermined line of dialogue to play when you ping yourself, instead of a random line of "help me" dialogue. Options in Mod Settings -> Ping Self Voiceover. Off by default. Home key (default) will ping self.

Player List

Shows ping and kick button in tab menu. Ping only shows for players if you're hosting or if they have enabled Share Ping option. Always on. Go to Mod Settings -> Player List to enable sharing ping to other clients and set ping refresh rate.

Player List Show Equipment

Shows player equipment in tab menu. Use right click to see item information. Always on.

Bot Improvements

Fixes and improvements to bot behavior. Features:
  • Prioritize Saltzpyre bot over Sienna when choosing which bots will be spawned. By Walterr.
  • Will make the bots stick closer to players, especially during swarms. By Walterr.
  • Allow bots to trade potions to human players who currently have none. By Walterr.
  • Allow bots to trade bombs to human players who currently have none. Patch 1.5+ only. By Grimalackt.
  • Allow bots to trade healing draughts to human players or other bots who are low health/wounded and have no healing item. By Grimalackt.
  • Improve bot melee behaviour. Glaive equipped Kerillian especially. By Grimalackt.

Chest Die Chance Info

Displays the percentage of getting a loot die when opening chests. Go to Mod Settings -> Items -> Show Loot Die Chance to toggle. Off by default.

Enemy Health Bars

Displays healthbars for enemies. Can be modified to show healthbars above and below enemies, show healthbars for specified enemies only and only show healthbars for damaged enemies. Go to Mod Settings -> Enemy Health Bars to change settings.

Show Damage

Adds the ability to display damage dealt by players in chat and in game world. Go to Mod Settings -> Show Player Damage to tweak settings to your liking.

Show Items

Adds the ability to display icons above items, including items inside chests. Go to Mod Settings -> Items -> Show Item Icons to tweak settings to your liking.

Third Person Camera

Adds third person camera mode. Go to Mod Settings -> Third Person to tweak to your liking. Keyboard shortcuts (default):
  • Ctrl + Middle Mouse Button - toggle first person/third person mode
  • Ctrl + Shift + Middle Mouse Button - switch between left/right camera position
  • Shift + Middle Mouse Button - change camera offset
  • Middle Mouse - change zoom level

Custom Game Modes

These mods provide new ways to play the game.

Deathwish

Download
Deathwish custom game mode. A higher level of difficulty than Cataclysm.
"A callback to the april's fool video, turned to reality. However, unlike Fatshark's video depicted, this mod does not spawn (much) extra specials at all. It is however a new devastating difficulty that will make cataclysm feel like child's play.
All skaven have received another major health increase compared to cataclysm, giving them resilience against most things that would otherwise dispose of them instantly. Stormvermins especially will not go down without coordinated effort, or large expense of ressources.
Common skaven have seen their damage slightly increased in comparison to cataclysm. They remain incapable of taking out heroes in less than 3 hits (grimoires excluded), but each strike will be felt. Special skaven have seen their damage massively increased in comparison to cataclysm, with ratling gunners taking the crown with a 433% increase in bullet damage.
Stormvermin patrols have received reinforcements in order to truly strike fear in the heart of heroes. In addition to all that, heroes have become more frail. They may not be knocked down anymore, they will instead die instantly."
By Grimalackt Go to Mod Settings -> Mutators -> Game Mode and pick Deathwish from the dropdown menu. This game mode works correctly only on Cataclysm difficulty.

Stormvermin Mutation (Stormvermintide)

"This simple mod replaces all slave rats with clan rats, all original clan rats with stormvermins, and all specials with ogres. Best played on hard difficulty, this mod will throw army upon army after you, overwhelming weak heroes through sheer brute force."
By Grimalackt Go to Mod Settings -> Mutators -> Game Mode and pick Stormvermintide from the dropdown menu. This game mode works correctly on all difficulties.

Utility Mods

These mods won't affect your experience with the game at all. Most people don't need these. Download

Dev Console

Opens a command line window that the game prints some debug information into. print() function can be used to display text in the console via lua scripts. Go to Mod Settings -> System -> Development Console Window to toggle. Off by default.

Dialogue Player

Allows to play character dialogues via chat commands. Chat commands:
  • /dialoglist - generates a file with dialogue ids in binary folder
  • /dialog [id] - plays dialogue with specified id

Vermintide Value Extractor

Extracts damage and other values for:
  • Melee weapon
  • Ranged weapons
  • Breeds
Puts them into CSV format without headers. This is what I use to generate this.

Known Issues

Error: 0xc000005 - Access violation on start up On some machines this error can occur because of "dinput8.dll". This should be fixed now.
Possible solutions (try them all in order):
  • Turn off steam overlay
  • Start game without the launcher
  • Remove "dinput8.dll" and inject "vermitideconsole.dll" yourself with Cheat Engine (or any other injector) before you reach the inn.
Loadout Saver issues When exiting loadout mid-restoring, the game can crash When hosting, trinkets equipped via loadout saver don't show up on character or in the tab window
Default Options crash When clicking Default in Mod Settings, the game crashes.
P.S. Try pressing wwssadad in succession. Edit: I've been informed that doing so during loading will cause the game to crash. So maybe don't do that.
